Charlie Charlie and Ouija boards are a thing of the past. Here are five more entities that according to urban legend, you can summon yourself. I say you can, but you really shouldn’t!
Charlie , Charlie is the newest craze to sweep the internet. Although an old game that is believed to have originated in Mexico, Charlie, Charlie as with most things today has been given the modern touch. The Charlie, Charlie Challenge is a viral thread that challenges people to video themselves playing Charlie, Charlie and post it online. So far over 2 million videos have been uploaded online.
Some claim that after uploading their videos, they have been plagued with nightmares, hearing whispers and hearing children screaming at night. Some claim that since playing the game they have been riddled with bad luck, feeling unwell and claim that precious sentimental items have gone missing from their houses. Some have even claimed that Charlie refused to let them leave the game and that they should ‘be scared’, suggesting that Charlie certainly has a dark side if you upset him.
It is not just Charlie that you need to be wary of, over the years many an urban legend has reportedly been responsible for mysterious deaths and unexplainable happenings. Here are a few other deities people have summoned and fallen foul of. Don’t try this at home.
5 – Slenderman
The legend of Slenderman spans a century, Slenderman is a paranormal figure that is most commonly associated with the abduction of children. Slenderman is known to stalk, haunt and taunt those who venture too far into the woods.
Although rumoured to have been the product of an online competition, it later became apparent that the inspiration for the contestants ‘Slenderman’ was more than a little sinister.
Slender man is described as being over ten foot tall, wearing a full dress suit and a pale almost non existent face. Slenderman is most commonly seen in certain areas of the woods or loitering on the perimetre of children’s playgrounds.
Slenderman has been seen both in the day and at night and is truly a terrifying sight to behold. Slenderman has even been spotted with what appear to be tentacles which he can extend to intimidate or capture his chosen soul.
How to summon him: (This works better at night)
Go into the woods, and carve a circle into a tree and put and X through it. press your face gently against the tree and close your eyes. This may also be done on a blank wall with a thick permanent marker. (Turn out the lights)
Chant: Slenderman, Slenderman, all the children try to run,
Slenderman, Slenderman, to him its part of the fun.
Slenderman, Slenderman, dressed in dark his suit and tie,
Slenderman, Slenderman, you most certainly will die…
Then, turn around. – Deviantart
4. Baby Blue
Baby Blue is a similar legend to that of Bloody Mary (get to later). The story of baby blue stems back many years. According to legend a chronically depressed, psychotic women gave birth to a child that she was convinced was that of the devil. She gave birth to the unnamed child prematurely in a bathroom and still being convinced the baby was demon spawn, she smashed the mirror, picked up a large shard and murdered the newborn.
Legend states that baby blue can be held by anyone who follows the correct process and chant. There are two ways to summon baby blue, one way is to enter the bathroom with a friend, steam up the mirror using the shower or hot tap and then write ‘Baby Blue’ on the fogged up surface.
You must then turn off the light and wait for 3 minutes. After three minutes in the pitch black, you both hold your arms out as if you were holding a baby. Once you have your arms out in position, one of you should feel the weight of a baby press down into your arms, once one of you have the baby, you must then pass it between one another.
Do not drop the baby. If you drop the baby you will feel a sharp scratch on your arm, if you drop it twice you will receive another scratch, drop it a third time and you will have your throat cut in the dark.
3. Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary is reported to be both malevolent and benign. She is known to appear in a mirror when her name is chanted three times. Originally known for telling the future of young maidens. She has however got a dark side.
When played in larger groups Bloody Mary seems to be more effective. She has been known to simply appear, smile then disappear but others have stated that Bloody Mary has appeared as a corpse and with a blank stare has whispered the name of one member of the group participating.
his can be played alone or with friends, but either way the premise is simple, Walk into a bathroom with the light off, stand in front of the mirror and chant ‘Bloody Mary’ three times. The spirit of a woman should appear in the mirror. Just don’t invite her out of the mirror and into your plain. She will attach herself to you and your family haunting and terrorising you all.
2. Light as a feather stiff as a board (not exactly a summoning but fun)
Another sleepover favourite is this group participation game that apparently calls upon the occult spirits to aid in the levitation of a group member.
This one is simple to set up, one party member lies flat on their back on the floor. The remaining members space themselves out evenly around that person and place two fingertips firmly under the person in the middle. This will only work if the chanting is done correctly.
The person closest to the head will lead the chants. First they must say, ‘She’s looking ill,’ which the others then repeat; then ‘she’s looking worse’ this is then repeated back by the group.
Then, the lead speaker will tell a short tale of how the person lying in the middle died. The person in the middle must imagine the death and see themselves leaving their physical body. At the same time the rest of the group will continuously chant ‘light as a feather, stiff as a board’ and will the body to rise off the floor and into the air.
1. Smile Dog
This one is a weird one. Smile Dog is actually an image, Smile.jpg – which is smile.dog. Other cases of this have been documented.
The original story is that a young writer had been working closely with a mentor in getting his first book published. His mentor, a well respected author herself was always willing to help and never turned away a writer in need of inspiration.
One day, the writer went to see his mentor to query his final chapter but was unable to get in, assuming she was out he went home to return that afternoon. Upon his return later that day, there was still no sign of her, he wrote a note in order to inform her of his visit. As he pushed the note through the letterbox he heard mad ramblings and blood curdling screams. He called the Police and broke through the door.
The woman had barricaded herself in her room and was ranting and raving about demons and ghosts that were surrounding her. The woman claimed to be tormented by hundreds of demons, she later tore off her own ears, gouged out her own eyes and cut out her tongue in order to escape the madness. She later died in mysterious circumstances.
All of this centred around a floppy disc that had been anonymously dropped through her door. The disc contained only one file. Smile.jpg.
The basics are; Viewing the image incites insanity. No other copy of the original image supposedly exists online. If you are sent the true image of smile.jpg it is a previously documented fact that the viewer will be rendered incapacitated and insane before being visited by the worst that hell has to offer and finally winding up dead.
Surviving alleged victims all offer up similar descriptions of the image. Mock up image below – CAUTION!
A dog-like creature (usually described as appearing similar to a Siberian husky), illuminated by the flash of the camera, sits in a dim room, the only background detail that is visible being a human hand extending from the darkness near the left side of the frame. The hand is empty, but is usually described as “beckoning”. Of course, most attention is given to the dog (or dog-creature, as some victims are more certain than others about what they claim to have seen). The muzzle of the beast is reputedly split in a wide grin, revealing two rows of very white, very straight, very sharp, very human-looking teeth. – Creepypasta
Another interesting fact is neither smile.jpg nor Smile.dog exists on Wikipedia. There are many a terrible horrific story on Wikipedia but it will not allow the phrase ‘Smile.dog’ or ‘Smile.jpg’. Those that attempt to create such a page are banned for life and the pages created destroyed. Weird…
What do you think of all this? Are you brave enough to try these?
