Yvette Fielding has revealed how she wanted to “throw the towel” in on Most Haunted when her husband and co-host Karl Beattie was clawed by a ghost filming the latest series.
The presenter of the long-running paranormal investigation series has described how things took a more frightening turn than normal during production of the latest series of Most Haunted.
“It’s when someone on the team gets a scratch or a burn – that’s when it gets really horrific,” the 47-year-old TV star explained.
She went on: “We were filming recently when both Karl and another member of the team were whipped on the arm at the same time. They were standing ten feet away from each other, but it happened at the same time.”
“I had a scratch,” continued Karl. “I took a photo of it every day, and each day that went by it got worse. It became infected. I ended up having to go to the doctor. He asked me where it had happened. I told him it happened at work – which is true, really.”
“There are many known cases of negative possessions or hauntings where burning or scratches take place,” Yvette explained. “This kind of occurrence is demonic. It’s real and it happens and I actually wanted to throw in the towel when that happened to Karl.”
Not ones for naïvety, Yvette and Karl are fully aware that the world is full of skeptics. They insist, however, that they are never met with doubt when they describe occurrences like that to members of the church.
The new series – which has now begun airing on Really – features plenty more violent ghosts than just the scratcher that clawed at Karl. The team have witnessed objects being pelted around rooms, lightbulbs being smashed and crowbars being chucked at Yvette herself.
At one particular location – Whittington Castle in Shropshire – a locked off camera was set up and caught evidence of books thrown off the shelves in the room it was in.
“There was one particular location where I had just got back from the jungle,” Yvette explained, referring to her time on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here last November. “Having been in that jungle I felt incredibly brave. I went down into the cellar. That was a big mistake.
Karl Beattie was scratched by a ghost and was forced to go to the doctor about it.
“I lasted ten minutes alone in the dark. I managed to catch a rock being thrown on camera. And a plastic box moving across the floor. I was screaming, shouting, cursing. I was so nervous and shouting like that makes me feel better. Then a door slammed and that was the last straw, I was gone.”
Despite all the close encounters with the unknown, Yvette and Karl absolutely love making Most Haunted. And with the show in its 18th series, they don’t intend on slowing down any time soon.
“I’ll always do it. I will never ever stop. Even if we don’t film it,” Yvette declared.
“It’s like the paranormal version of crack,” added Karl.
Most Haunted series 18 airs on Really at 10pm on Thursdays.
