Horror House is a brand new a hosted horror TV show that will be marketed to Australian tv channels in 2018. Imagine if Deadly Earnest and Elvira had hosted a show together and you will be on the right track.
Horror House is a half hour hosted horror show, starring David Black as the crazed Count Funghoula and Tritia Devisha as the delectable Mistress Boobiyana. Together, they present the best of the short horror movies that have been made in Australia. The principal photography on the series of six episodes has only just wrapped and soon, David Black will be approaching Australian TV channels and VOD sites to bring Horror House to you.
“Originally, I came up with the idea of the show because I’d been to many short film nights and festivals and seen some mind blowingly good horror movies. These amazing films usually can’t be released on a dvd or seen on TV due to being too short, so I decided to create a show that could feature them”, said Black. After putting the idea onto facebook, he then saw that the idea was very popular. Many people out there fondly remembered the old hosted horror shows such as Deadly Earnest and Elvira Mistress of the Dark and were enthusiastically welcoming the idea of a new one.
“Horror Show isn’t just a rehash of the old shows though”, Black continued. “We’ve seen the bar moved by “Game of Thrones”, “The Walking Dead” and “Outlander” over the last few years.“ From what we can see, he isn’t kidding either. Horror House will not be for the faint of heart. It is pure Ozploitation, complete with shlocky humour. There are tasteless jokes, dismemberments, blood, guts and the spurting of every type of body fluid imaginable.
When questioned about whether Australian TV would be ready for something like this, Black replied, “Years ago, I had a cartoon strip called “Punkz In Space”. It was tame and was basically a childrens’ cartoon strip. Australian outlets were afraid that having punk bush animals with mohawks and spikey hair would be too outrageous and knocked it back. Next thing, shows like Ren and Stimpy and the Simpsons became big hits here. They pushed the bar so much further than anything I had dreamed of at the time. At this stage, when it comes to tv shows, the bar has already been pushed by a number of successful shows from the USA. It’s time for our media execs to wake up and lead the pack, rather than fall behind and cry about their market being eroded by overseas competition.“
