It’s been a wild month for ‘Scream 5’ news. Last week, we learned Neve Campbell was in talks to return as Sidney Prescott, that Matthew Lillard would love to come back to the franchise (but can’t imagine it happening) and today we have official confirmation that David Arquette is officially back. The news that Dewey would be back to hunt down (or be hunted down by, or become) Ghostface reported today by Spyglass President Peter Oillataguerre himself…but wait! There’s more! I’LL BE RIGHT BACK!!!!
Ahem, the story will be written by James Vanderbilt (‘Darkness Falls’, ‘Zodiac’) and Guy Busick (‘Stan Against Evil, Ready or Not). The bittersweet news here however, is that famed ‘Scream’ writer Kevin Williamson will not be a part of the writing team but will instead Executive Produce. Here’s Williamson on coming back to the franchise:
“I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next ‘Scream.’ Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. ‘Ready or Not’ was my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the ‘Scream’ universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
The next addition of ‘Scream’ will start filming later this year in the same place as ‘Halloween Kills’; Wilmington, North Carolina. What do you think all this means? Will Sidney finally die? Or become the killer? Will Dewey lose his shit and end up as Ghostface? I’m still willing to bet this whole Matthew Lillard thing is the ultimate Wes Craven meta red herring and that he’s going to show up as the killer in the end. What do you think?
